Procedure for Hand-Harvesting Goji Berries from the Tree
1. Timing:
Harvest occurs in the late summer or early autumn.
Pick berries only when they are fully ripe, indicated by a uniform, deep red or crimson color and a slight softness to the touch. They should detach easily.
2. Method:
Place a clean tarp or tray on the ground beneath the branch to catch any berries that may fall.
Gently hold a branch steady with one hand.
With the other hand, pinch the stem of a ripe berry between your thumb and forefinger.
Apply a slight, twisting motion to snap the berry off from its stem cleanly.
Alternatively, you can gently roll the berry until it pops off.
3. Handling:
Place the harvested berries gently into a shallow, wide basket, tray, or bucket. Do not overfill containers to avoid crushing the berries at the bottom.
Do not toss or drop berries from a height, as their skin is delicate and can easily bruise.
